Hmm… Where to start? I have many interests, and have also let many of them slip into the past. Some of them due to changes in my situation, some due to finances, some due to laziness…

Outside of my family my one true passion is music. I love to listen, watch (yes, watch!), write and play music. Over the years I have played the clarinet, the saxophone, the piano, the guitar and the bagpipes. Of these the only one I actually have any skill at (and some may even argue this point!) is the bagpipes. I also sing. Over the years I have sung in bands, sung in choirs and sung to myself. I am currently singing again after a hiatus of far longer than I care to admit and I am enjoying it immensely. (See the ‘Band’ page for more on that.)

As far as bands I like go, the list is endless! I’m currently experiencing a retrospective stage in my musical taste and am indulging a penchant for the likes of Chris de Burgh, Iron Maiden, Fleetwood Mac and Elton John while exploring newer bands such as Motherjane and Alter Bridge and listening to music made by friends such as Anne-Marie Helder (in all her guises) and The Reasoning. Overarching all of them is a deep seated addiction to all that is progressive rock especially the likes of Marillion, Fish, Genesis, Pallas, and the list goes on.

I’m also an avid reader. I’ll read almost anything but my true hunger is for science fiction, fantasy and historical novels. My favourite authors include Orson Scott Card, Bernard Cornwell, Anne Rice, David Gemmell and Raymond Feist to name but a few.

Whilst not writing, listening or reading I love nothing better than being out on two wheels… As long as there’s an engine involved! I love real motorcycles, not the plastic pocket rockets that abound today, but real bikes which have to be ridden, and cajoled into corners…
